Review: Mindset: The New Psychology Of Success

Mindset: The New Psychology Of Success Mindset: The New Psychology Of Success by Carol S. Dweck
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Mrs. Dweck's Mindset: The New Psychology Of Success is a good book for those who always wanted to know what kind of mindset they have or wanted to know why some people say and do the things they do. Yes, it is all about the human mindset.

According to Dweck, we have two mindsets: a fixed mindset and a growth mindset. We all start off with a fixed mindset (things that we learned from our families, peers and what we may see in the media and society) tells us that we have a need to compete with others, but if one is seemingly better than you, we tend to blame others for our shortcomings. Whereas, the growth mindset is designed for us to make mistakes, learn from them, and move on. We are set to constantly challenge ourselves.

Dweck gives us many accounts were using the fixed mindset has failed some of our most famed stars and how the growth mindset has shown our famed stars some character growth.

As I was reading, I got the sense that she was pushing the growth mindset model on the reader. Not that it is entirely a bad thing, but I was left thinking that a person can have both, it depends on how and when to use them.

Again, I think it was a good book. The only things that I took issue with it were that the chapters were too long, redundancy, and too pushy on its narrative. If you don't mind those things then this is a good read for you.
