The 2nd Annual The Winter Spotlight Show @QUMS

Hi everyone,

It is 2015! Happy New Year to you and yours. I know that it has been a while since the last review, but I am here with a brand new one for you.

On January 16th, Queens United Middle School (QUMS), hosted their 2nd annual Winter Spotlight Show and first ever potluck. The potluck featured dishes that parents had provided for the students and faculty. Dishes such as macaroni and cheese, rice and peas, and chicken were just some of the delights that were on display.

This year's spotlight show focused mainly on video presentation. Such groups like Zumba and Drama provided video performances of students. Music and cheerleading clubs performed live. In addition, it is also important that students in the cheerleading club had performed their "I can't breathe" cheer in memory of Eric Gardner. Which made such a powerful statement in the wake of what has been going in the world.

With so much negativity, students also showcased their works of art for the audience. Some works were drawings and writings/poetry that students had made.

The show also featured Miss Abby's fashion show. This year the fashion show's theme was glow in the dark designs. The students wore glow in the dark glow sticks and paint on their clothes. 'Miss Abby', as the students know her by, had told the packed auditorium that "this year's theme was to show that models can be any gender, race and size." She wanted to show her students that in a business where there can be discrimination solely based on how one looks, that no matter who you are, you can still walk the runway.

The wonderful thing about Miss Abby is hard work and dedication to her craft and to her students. She is the embodiment that 'you can do anything, if you put your mind to it.'

What was amazing was at the final of the show, students had performed a light show with the glow sticks. That was pretty awesome and so wonderful to watch. The show was wonderful and I can't wait to see next year's show.
